New Purse.

The other day, I went looking for something quick and easy to sew just to get my machine going again after a few days sitting idle.  I stumbled across this tutorial and decided I wanted to give it a go.  Using some scraps from my fabric stash, I put together this practice version and I'm quite happy with how it turned out.  I've actually filled it with my cards etc and intend on using it until I get time to make another (although it didn't really take long to put together).

As you can see from the picture, I added a zippered coin pocket on the outside as I felt this was missing from the original tutorial.

Here are a few more pictures so you get the idea of where everything fits.

There is one little thread hanging out the side I need to cut off but otherwise it's all finished and doing its job.  I did go and buy more fabric today to make another one but it might take me a couple of days to get that finished.  I no longer have the luxury of my children sleeping at the same time in the afternoon, Mr. J has given day time sleeps up all together!

1st Birthday Outfit.

Miss E turned 1 on Monday and we're having a party for her tomorrow.  (There's no better excuse for a party dress than a 1st birthday!)  A few weeks ago, I went through my patterns and decided on the Oliver + S Ice Cream Dress as I love the simple style and how easy it comes together.  I had just the right fabric in my stash for the dress and coupled with a pair of matching shoes, she's got the perfect outfit to be the perfect party girl (that is if she doesn't need a change of clothes after eating her lunch!).

Here's a close up of the shoes.  I do love these.  I made a similar pair of shoes a couple of posts back but they were too big and not really right for what I wanted, so I changed the size of the pattern to fit, added a strap with velcro fastener and a cute button on the side.

I put a layer of polar fleece in the sole to give her a little more padding and the sole itself is made of fabric I got a little while back that is a great non slip base for both carpet and hard surfaces.

Hopefully I'll get some photos tomorrow before she gets into the swing of the party and gets something on her new outfit!

Some Sewing Has Been Happening!

OK so nothing of mine to show at the moment but Mr. J has been busy.

A couple of mornings ago, I decided that it was the perfect opportunity to get some of that dreaded cutting out done.  The sun was shining through our back windows onto my table, Miss E was sound asleep (and stayed that way for 3 1/2hrs) and Mr. J needed to be amused.  What better way to keep him busy than to get him sewing too?

All it took was some plastic with holes in it (sorry no idea what it's called or where to get it from), some wool and a blunt tapestry needle.

A little bit of guidance to begin with.......

and he was off and racing.

After about an hour, or maybe even a bit longer, my kitchen bench was covered with his handy work.

We had a lovely morning, sitting in the sun sewing together.  I did get a little distracted from my tasks a few times to help thread a needle, tie off ends or simply watch in awe at my 3yr old content and enjoying one of the simple pleasures in life.  I'm not sure who had more fun in the end.

Buttons or No Buttons?

I've made a pair of shoes for Miss E tonight but can't decide if they need buttons or not.  What do you think?  (Excuse the bad photography.)  For those playing at home, I used this free pattern from Homespun Threads but just didn't put the pleats in.

Trying to Find My Sewjo!

OK so over the past month, I seem to have lost my sewjo.  There have been so many things happening here  that I haven't had time to do any sewing or even blog surfing for inspiration.  I'm doing my best to get back in the swing of things and what better way to do that than order some gorgeous fabrics, all paid for with a gift voucher I received for my birthday.

My postie knocked on my door a few days ago to deliver this.

All packaged up in two plastic sealed parcels.  I couldn't open them quick enough.

I have definite plans for 3 of these and the others I am going to look at for a while and decide what to make.

Now I just need to get the motivation to thread my machine and get some things happening.  I want to make an outfit for DD's first birthday in a couple of weeks so that might be the push I need to get back into it.
